This first addition to the Eliot Glassheim Papers consists of transcripts of interviews, drafts, additional commentaries and materials relating to the book, Voices from the Flood: An Oral History of the 1997 Flood of the Red River of the North. The book was published in conjunction with the North Dakota Museum of Art's Oral History Project, which began in the summer of 1997, and was directed by Eliot Glassheim. The book described the 1997 Red River Valley Flood in the form of edited oral history interviews. Over twenty five people conducted interviews for the project, which Glassheim directed. He also edited the book for publication. The material is arranged in three series. Series I consists of the complete transcripts of the project's oral history interviews, some of which were not used in Voices from the Flood. Series II contains drafts of the book, in order from the first draft to the final draft. Series III consists of miscellaneous materials relating to the book.

Eliot Glassheim was born in New York City to Raymond S. Glassheim and Edith Ruthizer on February 1938. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1960 from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. His first impulse after graduation was to delve into journalism which lead him to Washington, D.C. where he worked as a copyboy for the Washington Post.
